September in the Castle Kitchen
As the weather turns to autumn, kitchen inspiration shifts to heartier, warming meals and, of course, game.
The first flush of game to hit the Brazz and Castle Bow menus was grouse during mid August. Partridge, snipe, mallard, fallow deer and many more will soon follow on our specials board in the coming weeks.
You’ll also find blackberries, apples, quince, root vegetables, greengages, pears and squash readily available. A simple walk on the lanes or in the autumn fields can inspire some classic dishes, and picking blackberries is great fun for kids. We currently have a chilled Blackberry Soup on the menu in Castle Bow. It’s truly stunning.
We’ll be heading out to pick apples from the Castle’s orchard this month which was planted in Charlton Orchards. The annual event is so much fun and a team effort!
At the end of this month, we’re hosting the first ever Feast, Taunton Food & Drink Festival. You can check out the website here. We are looking forward to having so many of the country’s top chefs with us. There are plenty of fun activities going on – it’s not to be missed. So please visit the website and mark it in your diary.
We’ve received amazing scores for both Castle Bow and Brazz in the Good Food Guide and the whole team are buzzing. We’d like to say a massive thanks to all our fantastic suppliers: Kingfisher, Arthur David, Sasha, Rob Hawker, M.C. Kelly, Ritter’s, Longman’s, Stillmans and there are a few more. Great produce makes great food. So thank you from all of us for making it easier.
