Apple Picking at Charlton Orchards
The start of November marks the end of the harvest season, so we headed to The Castle Orchard at Charlton Orchards to pick some apples!

The Chapman family has run The Castle Hotel for 67 years, and seven years ago we decided to plant 60 trees in commemoration of those 60 years.
As a result, we’re fortunate to have a lot of choice to pick from at the orchard. Some of the varieties are Laxton’s Fortune, Worcester Pearmain, Lord Lambourne, Kidd’s Orange, Cox’s Orange Pippin, Red Pippin, Adam’s Pearmain and Orleans Reinette. We use one of the older varieties called the Egremont Russet for our apple mousse in Castle Bow Restaurant.
All of these apples have different uses and can produce amazing dishes. At The Castle, many of the apples we pick go into our Apple Crumble, Apple and Cinnamon Cake with Butterscotch Sauce and Chantilly Cream, and chutneys as well!
